Babcock Edu: Senior Chemist David Schiessel to Present at CASQA

Babcock Labs Senior Chemist David Schiessel stands next to LC/MS/MS

The 2014 Annual CASQA Conference kicks off on Monday, September 15, with various stormwater training workshops and its first ever poster session. Babcock Labs Senior Chemist David Schiessel will present on synthetic pyrethroids (SPs), commonly used in RAID products and by commercial structural pest control companies. Attendees can expect to learn about why SPs are an emerging contaminant and how this class of compounds can be analyzed quickly, accurately, and at extremely low levels (low parts-per-trillion range) using LC/MS/MS (Liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry).

Currently, adapted methods (EPA 8270) require large volumes of sample (1 liter) and a laborious extraction. This newly developed method is the first to use direct injection and LC/MS/MS, saving clients on shipping costs while lowering reporting limits.

Mr. Schiessel will begin his poster presentation at 10 AM on Monday, September 15, and will be happy to answer attendees’ technical questions. The poster will remain on display in the Grand Ballroom Hall all day. On Tuesday, September 16, Mr. Schiessel will deliver an oral presentation at 2:40 PM. The Tuesday session will be available to Track E registrants.
